You Can't Take It With You by George S. Kaufman & Moss Hart was produced as a theatrical reading on June 22, 2019 in the chapel at the Church of St. James the Less.
You Can’t Take It with You follows the lives of members of the Sycamore family, an eccentric clan living in New York City, their relationships with the zany characters they surround themselves with, and their interactions with the seemingly normal Kirby family. The Kirby’s are invited over for dinner when Tony Kirby, Jr. and Alice Sycamore strike up a workplace affair, and the madcap, idealistic comedy ensues, reinforcing the idea that you can only live life to the fullest by doing whatever makes you happy. “Office hours are from 12 to 1 with an hour off for lunch.” It appears the play’s Pulitzer Prize-winning author, George S. Kaufman, embraced this philosophy the most.
